Wat Dat Iz and Gutta

In a progressing and thriving city everybody plays a part, If we was to take Austin back to the Roman Empire days this would sound more simple, bottom line you have the people ( listeners, customers, and the general public ) the people are important because their votes and also because their praises and approval is often recognized by higher powers, when one gains such approval, he could be granted freedom, but to earn his way he would have have to outlast his peers and defy all odds, truth be told Austin is just as bloodthirsty when it comes to their praises, no one is going to cheer for the unknowns. It takes a certain type of man to be exceptionally good at what he does as well as lend his intelligence to his brothers so they can aid each other to victory. Interesting enough, Gutta doesn't see himself as a king of his city, he sees himself as a gladiator. A gladiator who is still learning from his battles and has more to accomplish.

Born and raised in Austin Texas, Brandon Williams better known as Gutta has already established himself as the hometown hero. Earning awards amongst his peers and gaining victories in state-wide rap battles further solidifies this notion. The flip side to this coin is in being a hero you are no longer a man trying to reach a goal but you become a topic of discussion. Without asking or registering for a fight, Gutta's name will often be thrown into a hat of who is the best. Some people love to see him succeed and other love to see him fail but mainly people just love to him battle, win or lose. Gutta's songwriting style could be best described as energetic, pure and true to sport, his punchlines, metaphors and topics come at you in different ways, and his stance on a track isn't always the same either. Although many battles won, Gutta is just getting warmed up as he is getting request for more paid features and shows. Expect the unexpected as he prepares for his 4 disc release “ Cut to the Chase “. which comes out this month, July 29th!

I don't need another 30 seconds to explain why I picked Gutta to be on the Wat Dat Iz album, but let me just note that I have two of his posters on my wall, one for “Industrial Strength” and another for “Feed Me Beats”, He has been easy to work with far as promotions, photo shoots and studio sessions and he delivers on his word. He is on the first track ( Wat Dat Iz remix prod. by Crooked T ) and he is the first voice you hear when you pop in the cd. Both of his verses are standouts and I look forward to working with him again on the next album!

Wat Dat Iz and Zach Wood

Whats Good Zach Wood?!? seems to be the question on many peoples minds now that he has started to make a name for himself in the Austin Hip-Hop Music Scene, Born and raised in Pflugerville, Texas ( walking distance from Austin ) Zachary E. Wood or more notably Zach Wood is a 17 year old prodigy who has no problem of doing things in his own articulate way. He describes his style as being witty and proper. Backed by a loyal fan base of people who are looking for that new sound, Zach continues to write pages in his success story. Successful shows, cross-promoted collaborations and just recently, radio interviews are sure sign that we are in for a ride as Zach prepares for his debut mix tape “ Not From Concentrate “ coming out in August 2010!

I put Zach Wood on the Wat Dat Iz album because he has cornered his sound and knows his fan base. To be honest, not only did Zach bring a verse to the cd; he also brought the song home. Originally the Wat Dat Iz album was supposed to be for the rap veterans and the hood, but even then, the cd would be limited because looking for artist in Austin to rap on tracks about the hood or spending money is like going to a PTA meeting and asking for opinions on school policy, everyone wants to talk and it gets boring! The whole purpose of the Wat Dat Iz album was to reach new markets and push the boundaries of what is to be expected from an Austin Project. Zach Wood helps us do that!

Wat Dat Iz and T Fowler

Tristen Fowler also known as T Fowler was born in Waco, Tx but now is a breath of fresh air here in the Austin music scene. He has his own distinct sound and look to match! He is apart of the group Poison Boyz and has featured on many songs and singles with them gaining him more exposure hit after hit and show after show. You can buy his official first release " Showtime " on iTunes which is also mixed by Dj Grip ( one of the most recognized hip hop dj's in Texas ) . While you are listening to his cd you will quickly notice his hard hitting beats and exceptional song writing skills. He has worked with the best the city has to offer and remains humble. Y2JJ himself told me T Fowler was the " future of the Austin Music Scene ".

I put T Fowler on the Wat Dat Iz album because he fit the song " Man Ain't Here " to the T. In his rhymes he has a slick delivery and he lets the beat breathe. ( perfect for a track when your talking to a female audience ) I thought it would be perfect to get him, Pimpin Pen and Kush on the same record for the simple reason that by just listening to the song, the audience could actually believe that these three men could go into a club and turn a head. T Fowler is marketable and ladies respond to him well, bottom line he sells and he was great to work with, that is why I put him on the album!
